A Large Power Soft Starter is a high‑capacity electronic motor starting device designed to control the starting and stopping of large industrial motors with reduced electrical and mechanical stress. By gradually ramping the voltage and current supplied to a motor during startup, a soft starter limits inrush current, reduces torque shock, and improves system reliability, especially for heavy loads such as crushers, mills, compressors, large pumps, and conveyors.

This type of soft starter is specifically engineered for high‑power industrial applications where motors are in the range of several hundred kilowatts (kW) to multiple megawatts (MW). It uses robust solid‑state power semiconductor devices (thyristors/SCRs) and advanced control algorithms to deliver smooth acceleration and deceleration, full motor protection, and integration with automation systems.
