A Solid State Soft Starter is an electronic motor starting device that gradually ramps up the voltage supplied to an AC motor to reduce inrush current and mechanical stress during startup. By controlling the voltage and current during the acceleration phase, the soft starter provides smooth motor starts and stops, minimizes electrical and mechanical shock, and extends the life of motors, drive trains, and driven equipment.

Unlike traditional reduced‑voltage starters, solid state soft starters use power semiconductor devices (such as thyristors/SCRs) to control voltage smoothly and reliably without moving parts, enabling precise control, improved system protection, and enhanced performance. They are widely used in industrial, commercial, and utility applications involving pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, and other large motor loads.
